KNAPP® Connecting Systems for Timber Frame and Engineered Timber Construction provide not only a very high degree of prefabrication, but also maintain the highest safety standards.  Our connecting systems are not only compliant with the (ETA) European certification, but have the CE-marking as well.

Like all KNAPP® connectors, our products can easily be snapped into place with recessed fasteners that aren’t visible, when assembled.  Regular external inspection guarantees maximum security for contractors, architects, manufacturers, engineers, and owners. The ACRO System Connectors are for constructions with simple column and beam joints.
The BASIS System is a connector for direct mounting on solid surfaces, such as concrete, stone, masonry.

The ACRO-System has ten basic fastener parts, which allows a large variety of different fasteners to be created, and provides multiple applications. With little effort, the connectors can also be put together and mounted on site. It allows a very high degree of pre-manufacturing and a quick process assembly.

They are used for all kinds of prefabricated timber construction, such as smaller sunrooms, pergolas or garden houses, as well as “classic” carpentry. The ACRO-System parts are screwed on and snapped together. They are non-visible and can be disassembled at any time.

ACRO-System is designed for connections with tested stress values in structural timber construction, i.e. for simple post and beam joints.

Processing – milling:
To recess the connector, a groove is routed in the end-grain or the face-grain. The groove is 8.5 mm deep and done by a hand router, CNC machining center with a slot cutter Ø 15 mm, the dimension depends on the connector size. Drilling and milling jigs are available for a simple and precise processing.

The respective ACRO-System consists of several identical connector parts, made of high strength blue-galvanized weather-resistant steel, and is manufactured in Austria.
The choice of the correct ACRO-System connector depends on the respective timber dimension. The milling operations can be made optionally with a hand router or a CNC machining center. The system is tested and available in seven different sizes.

The BASIS System is an extension of the ACRO System. The ACRO connector is mounted on a galvanized steel plate and comes already assembled that way. The fastener can be screwed on solid surface, such as screed, tiles, stone, etc. The counterpart is attached to the column. This makes an almost non-visible (only a small slot is visible) and very durable attachment of columns to the ground.
Note*, the BASIS System is not designed for freestanding columns.

The BASIS System is available in two sizes.

RICON®

Connector for main and secondary beam joints, up to 26 kN load-bearing

The RICON® connecting system is a unique connector for main and secondary beam joints and can be installed on beams with a width as little as 50 mm.

The main and secondary beam joint connector RICON® consists of two identical connector plates made of steel. An optional lock can be installed to latch the connector. The RICON® is recessed and non-visible, and can be used with timber widths as little as 50 mm. RICON® is available in a single connector set and double connector set for cross joints in six sizes 60, 80, 100, 120, 140 and 160/40.

NEW and improved:

  • Better grip on the timber by means of a star-shaped embossing on the backside of the connector plate.
  • Mounting also on intermediate layers up to 26 mm (i.e. OSB).
  • Special coating for increased corrosion resistance for indoor swimming pools, riding halls, stables and farm buildings (tested).
  • Approval for off-centered glass loads up to 860 kg given by an additional reinforcing plate.

Gigant®

Connector for main and secondary beam joints, up to 29.8 kN load-bearing

The GIGANT connecting system was the first connector to be installed with screws in perpendicular direction in the end grain and revolutionized the timber industry.

The GIGANT connecting system consists of two identical connector brackets made of steel. The brackets are recessed and screwed onto the timber components. The timber components are then joined as the brackets hook into each other in a dovetail-like manner. The GIGANT is used in timber structures, such as canopies, pergolas, sun rooms, timber homes, and even engineered timber structures. The GIGANT connectors are non-visible, self-tightening, and adjustable, with no additional screwing or nailing required to assemble the timber structure on site. An optional lock can be installed to latch the connector against the slide-in direction. The GIGANT is available in three sizes, 120/40, 150/40 and 180/40.

  • Available in hot-dip galvanizing for higher corrosion resistance.

RICON® S

Connector for main and secondary beam joints, up to 100 kN load-bearing

The RICON® S system holds up to 116 kN and can be used for joints from timber to timber, steel, and concrete. The connectors can be installed fully concealed or visible with only 35 mm (1 1/2″) of travel required to engage.

RICON® S is a main and secondary beam connector for heavy load. It consists of two identical connector plates, made of galvanized steel. The plates are screwed onto the timber, steel and / or concrete components. The components  are then joined as the plates hook into each other in a dovetail-like manner. The RICON® S is used in residential and commercial timber construction, as well as engineered timber structures.

You can meet the needed load capacity through using the appropriate amount of RICON® S CS-screws.

There are two kinds of RICON® S connectors

  1. Welded collar bolt (VS)
  2. Screwed collar bold (VK)

Both kinds are available in four sizes: 140/60, 200/60, 200/80, 290/80.
